Recently, pulmonary diseases are increasing by several causes and the use of inhaler tends to increase. The effectiveness of treatment with an inhaler depends on the proper use of device. So we have performed a medication counseling for asthma and inhalation technique to the requested patients, and analyzed the results from Apr. 1998 to Nov. 1998 for 426 patients. When we assessed technique of using the device as 7 steps, the best performed step was 1st step, ´correct holding´, that the high level of pre-and post counseling was 77.3%/94.6%, and the worst performed step was 6th step, particularly with MDI´s (metered dose inhaler), ´inhalation of a drug´, that the high level of pre- and post counseling was 18.4%/49.7%. Inhaler medication counseling is necessary to lead and improve the proper use of inhaler and then to maximize the effectiveness of treatment.
